“Competency frameworks are powerful tools – but only when they are clearly defined, contextually adapted, and embedded into broader organisational systems.”
– Jade Quarrell, Assistant DG: Professional Competency Development, IDI
This case study, developed by the IDI, demonstrates how Supreme Audit Institutions are systematically implementing the principles of ISSAI 150 to advance professionalisation within their organisations.
Developed through a collaborative initiative led by IDI and SAI partners – with experts from the CBC and the Performance Audit Subcommittee working closely with teams to ladder the performance audit competency framework – it showcases the design and implementation of a three-level competency model that defines clear progression pathways from foundational to professional auditors. By aligning competency development with GUID 1950 and embedding it into HR systems, participating SAIs are strengthening audit quality, enhancing impact, and advancing their professionalisation journeys in a tangible and sustainable way.
