Listen to Auditor General of South Africa, Tsakani Maluleke.

In the context of global disruption, and an era marked by a dearth of public trust, people look to global institutions like SAIs to help restore and maintain trust. This means there is tremendous pressure on SAIs and their staff to show up ethically and professionally, for the people they are meant to serve.

This is the powerful message from Tsakani Maluleke, Auditor General of South Africa and Chair of the INTOSAI Capacity Building Committee, ahead of the 24th International Congress of Supreme Audit Institutions in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Monday 7 November.

With this greater expectation comes greater responsibility, she says.

And so for me, professionalism is about being responsive, understanding the environment within which we operate and really positioning ourselves so that we are adequately up to the task.

In the clip below, Tsakani also explains how SAIs must respond to the ever-evolving nature of professional standards, the growing complexity of the work they do and why being deliberate about capacity building in our teams is crucial, and will only become more important going forward.
