The INTOSAI General Secretariat is pleased to invite INTOSAI members and stakeholders to the INTOSAI side vent at the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF), titled “Growing competencies and capacities of Supreme Audit Institutions for delivering audit value for the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals”.

It will take place on 21 July 2025, from 13:00–14:30 (NY time, UTC-4), at the Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Bhutan to the United Nations (763 First Avenue, New York, US).

This side event will bring together SAIs, INTOSAI bodies, UN bodies, international organisations, civil society, academia, and national governments, with a two-folded purpose:

  • To launch IDI-KSC’s SAI SDG Auditor Initiative, which will grow competencies of SAI auditors to provide independent external oversight on implementation of the 2030 agenda through high quality and high impact audits.
  • To discuss competency development for auditing the implementation of SDGs and sustainability in the long run.

The agenda is as follows:

The session will also explore key competencies SAI auditors need to audit SDG implementation and how the initiative will support their development. The role of INTOSAI KSC and IDI in backing participating SAIs will be highlighted, along with IDI’s plans for growing capabilities in sustainability auditing in the long run.

45 min Panel discussion: SAI Competencies, Capacities and Contribution to the 2030 Agenda

In this panel, SAIs will reflect on building audit competencies and share experiences from auditing SDG implementation—particularly Goals 3 and 5, which are under in-depth review during HLPF 2025. They will also highlight the impact and value delivered through their audit work in auditing the SDGs. We will also learn more about the perspective of SAIs in Small Island Developing States (SIDS), especially their unique challenges and the strategies to overcome them. Key partners, including WHO and UN Women, will discuss their collaboration with IDI in supporting SAIs to audit SDGs using a whole-of-government lens and the application of the Leave No One Behind (LNOB) principle.
